TraVis
TraVis is a web-centric, computer-vision processing system that detects vehicles and collects relevant vehicle data at signalized intersections. TraVis also allows a traffic engineer to monitor the traffic at an intersection using an ordinary web browser on a computer desktop at home or office. It is easy to install and simple to learn to configure/use. TraVis interfaces with the existing hardware at signalized intersections. The state-of-the-art, Ethernet cameras automatically adapt to changing light and visibility conditions. The system collects and stores important traffic data—vehicle count, levels of service and stop delay—that help simplify the traffic engineer's job.
TraVis is equipped to mitigate the typical threats to the proper operation of a video detection system. For instance: TraVis automatically shifts into fog/emergency mode when necessary and draws upon the relevant historical data to control the traffic signal timing during those times. Unlike other video vehicle detection systems, TraVis does not put a maximum recall when it operates in fog/emergency mode. The patent-pending fog-mode algorithm computes and provides required amounts of green-split duration to affected phases.
The advanced night-detection algorithm effectively mitigates and considerably reduces the false positives generated by reflected light on wet and reflective pavement. The advanced IP cameras are effectively controlled by the processor to generate the best-possible image at all periods of the day and at all visibility levels.
